2007-Jun-28: Emergency shutdown of two German nuclear power plants
According to a press release from Vattenfall Europe, the two nuclear power plants Brunsbüttel and Krümmel located in northern Germany, shut down on the afternoon of June 28th, 2007.
According to Vattenfall, both shut downs were due to short circuits in the power grid. At Krümmel, the shut down was caused by a fire in a power transformer. Both power plants are reported to be in a safe state and no radioactive material has been set free.

2006-Nov-04: European power grid disturbance
On November 4th, 2006, the European interconnected power grid experienced a serious disturbance. The UCTE interconnected grid lost synchronisation between 22:10 and 22:48 and separated into three island grids. This led to power outages throughout Europe. The final report on the events was published on January 1st, 2007 by UCTE in their press release.
